Congratulations to –
Writer’s Plot Readers Read

2/893 Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt
A new bookshop with an innovative approach opens in Upper Hutt, Friday 2 October
The initiators of this exciting venture, Cat Connor and Caro Lankow say –
“There is a wealth of talented story tellers in New Zealand that rarely come to the attention of the general population because they’re published by small to mid-sized presses or, in some cases, self-published. Many of these authors are left to promote themselves or are only promoted in the country they are published in, often that country is not New Zealand. Writer’s Plot Readers Read has been established to provide an outlet for these authors and let the readers of this country discover new and exciting works of fiction.
The bookshop is established by members of Writer’s Plot Readers Read Incorporated Society and will be run as a not-for-profit endeavour, promoting literacy and New Zealand talent through public events. It will be unique as the only bookshop in NZ to always have a published writer in residence. Every month there will be occasions to meet authors, attend book launches, or share poetry and storytelling with others. Writing and editing block courses will be offered as well as book clubs with regular get togethers for readers to discuss books with like minded people. An online bookshop is currently a work in progress for those outside the area to obtain these amazing books.
The members of the society who will be manning the shop, pride themselves on offering a complete service, from recommending books in the genre of your choice to assisting customers to shop or order books not easily found in New Zealand, which includes ordering books online for people who aren’t comfortable with technology.”
“Next year we will be working with the organiser of the NZ Independent Book Festival to bring a similar event to the Wellington Region,” said Cat Connor, author and chairperson of the Incorporated Society.  “Follow us on Facebook or twitter, all our events will be advertised on social media,” Cat added. “We are here to help bring about change and to expose the stories tucked away in remote places to readers.”

Flaxroots commends this brave initiative and wishes it every success.
If you’re lucky enough to be living nearby, do go and take a look.
