by Margaret Beames
This book is a really good way to understand what it was like in New Zealand and England in 1842.
It is also extremely exciting.
In this story Charlie and Joss get sent from Parkhurst Prison in England to embark on a wild adventure to, in and out of New Zealand where they meet Maori tribes, ruthless sailors and a whole lot of other people as well.
I really like how the author, Margaret Beames, got a whole lot of interesting information and managed to convert it into a really exciting and gripping book.
I would recommend this book to ages 10+, because it is really enjoyable if you know what the words mean, as there are some complicated ones.
Overall, it’s a really exciting book and a good read.
It was runner-up in the Story Book of the Year, 1987
