I couldn’t resist this invitation –
“Check which famous writer you write like with this statistical analysis tool, which analyzes your word choice and writing style and compares them with those of the famous writers.”
So, I went to the site (http://iwl.me) and followed the instructions (Any text in English will do…chapter of your unfinished book, etc. For reliable results paste at least a few paragraphs).
In went a random sample of my almost finished new novel and, not quite as fast as a speeding bullet but competitive with a cat on a hot tin roof, came back the analysis set out as a “badge” apparently to be printed and worn on suitable occasions.

That was quite exciting. I should have accepted it and left it there. But I didn’t. I selected another random sample, and found

Stephen King
Of course, once started, I carried on. A dozen random passages, and 9 different results. So now I have badges to prove I also write like
Chuck Palahniuk, Dan Brown, James Joyce, L. Frank Baum,
Mark Twain, Vladimir Nabokov, and Kurt Vonnegut.
I’m sure you can see my dilemma. In fact my several dilemmas.
• If my new novel contains so many different styles, can it be cohesive?
• I haven't read several of these authors. Do I want to be compared with them?
• Where are all the women?
• Why can’t I just be me?
When the book comes out I guess I’ll leave it up to you to decide!
